For departments, organizations, and/or clubs desiring to host a Student Equity Workshop (SEW) for members or invited attendees only, the Office of Multicultural Affairs offers four different options: the Diversity Peer Education Program (DPE), Common Ground Dialogues (CGD), Safe Zone, and the Dismantle Oppression (DO) Series. To learn more about which training program or workshop is appropriate for you or your group, please visit www.stjohns.edu/OMA. Next, open the "OMA Signature Programs" accordion for training/program details.
Once you know the workshop that your group would like to request, please complete the below request form detailing your needs. Within 5 business days, a member of our support staff will respond.
Please note that trainings must be submitted at least 14 calendar days in advance. Trainings will be available in person during the fall semester and spring semester. Virtual options are possible for many trainings, though in-person have also resumed. No trainings will be offered on University class breaks or holidays.
When requesting a training or workshop, we suggest booking between the following times:
* You may book other days that are not listed. Further, the listed days/times may change once the academic semester ends. Therefore, if training dates/hours do not meet your needs, please fill out the form and select your preferred days/times. Then email Lové Johnson, Assistant Director of Training of Social Justice Training & Education to see if she and her student leader staff can accommodate.
In-Person Training Requests: All-in-person private-group requested trainings require the requesting group to have reserved the physical location. Even if you want your training in the IRC, you must complete a conference reservation (and receive a pass). This is so Conference Services can setup, clean up the space post your use. Please contact Conference Services (718-990-7300) for room needs. For any room that you book, please add an additional 30 minutes to 1-hour of time to the front/back of your booking request so that your SEW facilitators can arrive and setup.
Virtual Training Requests: For virtual requests, we ask that requesters use Zoom. Our team is able to schedule a Zoom registration and send the link to your team. If this is something you desire, indicate it in your request.
NOTE: Your training is not confirmed until you receive email confirmation from one of the SEW Student Coordinators or the Assistant Director of Social Justice Training & Education (for Queens) or the Associate Director of Multicultural Affairs (for Staten Island).
Participant Sizes: The SEW participant capacity varies in virtual settings and may be limited for in-person trainings. Typically, we ask that groups are no smaller than 10 and no larger than 30 participants. If your request is for less than 10 students and another organization requests the same training on the same day, you may be asked to have a joint training with other student leaders. If your group is more than 30, please speak directly to the SEW Program Supervisor(s) to confirm our team can accommodate. If we cannot, we may ask you to break up the group and request two workshops, or contact us to work through an alternative solution.
For Queens Campus or virtual request questions, please contact Lové Johnson (she/her), via email at johnsol2@stjohns.edu. For Staten Island questions, contact Leticia Romero (she/her/ella) at romerol1@stjohns.edu.
Thank you!
